WHAT IS BISACODYL AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
Bisacodyl is an over-the-counter medication used to treat constipation. Bisacodyl is known as a stimulant laxative. It works by increasing the movement of the intestines, helping the stool to come out.
Bisacodyl is available under the following different brand names: Dulcolax, Correctol, Metalax, BisacEvac, Bisacolax, Codulax, Alophen, Feen A Mint, Fleet Stimulant Laxative, Laxit, Modane, and Dulcolax for Women.
WHAT ARE DOSAGES OF BISACODYL?
Dosages of Bisacodyl: Dosage Forms and Strengths
Tablets 5 mg
Dosage Considerations – Should be Given as Follows:
Constipation
Adult: 5-15 mg orally once daily; if complete evacuation required, 30 mg orally once daily
Children over 12 years: 5-15 mg orally at bedtime
Children 6-12 years: 5 mg or 0.3 mg/kg orally at bedtime or before breakfast
Children under 6 years: oral administration is not recommended, because of the requirement to swallow tablets
